Motion Bullish About Future after Losing Breakfast Show Slot

One of Scotland's best-known radio DJs has announced that “there are no hard feelings” after being let go from the radio station, Galaxy Scotland, last week.

Says Vanessa Motion, in a statement issued today: ”I would be lying if I said it wasn't a surprise. However, my time at Galaxy was fantastic and I'm indebted to Richard Park, and the Galaxy team for giving me the opportunity.”

She co-hosted the station's breakfast show, with comedian, Des Clarke. In the job for two years, it's understood her contract was not renewed.

She added: “I’ve been a part of the station since the launch in 2008 which has been incredible and I feel very proud of the fantastic audience figures that the morning show achieved with my then co-host and friend, Des. I have no doubt that it will continue to go from strength to strength and of course I'll tune in.”

Galaxy Scotland is to be soon rebranded, Capital FM, and Motion's fate was yesterday reported by the Daily Record newspaper, which quoted a spokesperson for the station saying: “We are delighted to welcome Jennie [Cook] as Des’s new co-presenter. She has been an integral part of the breakfast show for two years so we share her excitement about this new role. The whole team would like to thank Vanessa for her hard work and commitment over the years. We would also like to wish her all the best for her future.”

Having began her career in Richard Park's VRN hospital radio station in Kirkcaldy many years ago, Motion then took an HNC in radio broadcasting and rose through the ranks, working for Tay FM and Radio Borders before landing the sought-after slot on Galaxy.

Motion added: “These are difficult times we live in and – with all the restructuring being made in the economy – I guess some things have got to give. There are major changes going on with the Galaxy / Capital rebrand and we've got to take it on the chin and get on with it. It has been a privilege to present on Galaxy. I have adored my time there and within the company. I wish them continued success with their growth in the broadcast and entertainment sector.”

She is saying she already has had approaches from other broadcasters and media titles.

“It's funny what can happen in 24 hours. I already have a few really interesting meetings lined up in the next few weeks so I guess you'll have to watch this space.”
