Industrial Action Threat Looms over BBC

A ballot for industrial action could be called later today if BBC bosses do not react positively to a request from trade unions to begin negotiations on planned job cuts and programming priorities.

Three unions – Amicus/Unite, BECTU and the NUJ – have sent a letter to the Corporation, demanding a response by lunchtime. As well as wishing to discuss – nationally, not locally – job cuts proposed by director-general, Mark Thompson, the trio also want to talk about the future direction of the BBC.
