WEST Appointed Exclusive Supplier of Draught Lager to Blythswood Square

Glasgow independent WEST’s reputation as the brewer of choice for Scotland’s hotelier cognoscenti has been confirmed by its appointment as the exclusive supplier of draught lager to Blythswood Square,  Glasgow’s newest luxury hotel.

Created in the former Royal Scottish Automobile Club (RSAC), the stylish five-star boutique hotel houses 100 guest rooms, including a penthouse, a spa, a 120-cover restaurant, The Rally Bar, named after the Monte Carlo Rally, which started out from Blythswood Square in 1955, and a salon offering views over Blythswood Square.

Located in Glasgow city centre, Blythswood Square is the newest and most significant addition to The Town House Collection of luxury boutique hotels in Scotland.

Hans Rissmann, managing director of The Town House Collection, said, 'Blythswood Square will quickly establish itself as the “hotel of choice in the corporate and leisure marketplace” through a recognition that, like WEST's St. Mungo lager, it deploys Glasgow's heritage to create a quality product that is both synonymous with and unique to the city. Through our association with WEST, visitors to Glasgow can now enjoy a truly distinctive experience unavailable elsewhere in the world at Blythswood Square, the “hotel in Glasgow for the discerning visitor along with St. Mungo, the real taste of Glasgow.'

Blythswood Square is the latest in a burgeoning list of boutique hotels throughout the country supplied by WEST. These include the world famous Turnberry Resort in Ayrshire, the award-winning Ardeonaig Hotel on Loch Tay and Monachyle Mhor Hotel in Balquidder.

WEST MD Petra Wetzel said, “Our growing reputation as the brewer of choice amongst upmarket hoteliers is not only a huge compliment to our dedicated team of brewers, but also recognition that we are producing some of the best premium lagers in the UK.

“The secret to our success, I believe, is the fact that we brew the only lagers and wheat beers in the UK to meet the Reinheitsgebot of 1516. This is known as the German Purity Law; the oldest food law in the world which ensures only the finest, purest beer is deemed fit for consumption.

“Indeed, we recently won three gold medals from the DLG, the prestigious Deutsche Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft (German Agricultural Society) – the first time that any lager brewed in the UK received a medal from the DLG.”

Based in the iconic Templeton Building, WEST operates a full production brewery and is home to a stylish beer hall and restaurant with a beer garden overlooking Glasgow Green.
