St Mungo Taps Into Strathbungo at Cookie

St Mungo, the award-winning lager brewed by WEST, Glasgow’s independent brewery, is available from today (27.01.10) in Glasgow’s southside on draught for the first time.

Cookie, the eatery, deli and shop, which opened its doors in Strathbungo at the end of last year is now offering its customers St Mungo on tap to add a bar side to its multi-faceted operation by enticing lovers of premium lager in the city’s southside to drop in for a few beers.

WEST MD Petra Wetzel said, “Cookie shares our ethos in terms of offering customers a range of quality, locally sourced produce and, as such, the west end vibe that Cookie introduces to the southside, makes the eatery the ideal place for lovers of premium lager to sample our award-winning range of beers.”

St Mungo is a light golden lager that has already won a prestigious DLG (German Agricultural Society) gold medal, as has WEST’s Dunkel and Hefeweizen, both of which will also be on tap at Cookie; Dunkel, a speciality dark lager during the winter and, during the summer, Hefeweizen, the brewer’s wheat beer,

Named after Glasgow’s patron saint and fellow brewer, St Mungo is brewed according to the Reinheitsgebot of 1516 (the German Purity Law; the oldest food law in the world which ensures only the finest, purest beer is deemed fit for consumption).

Cookie proprietor Domenico del Priore said, “St Mungo brings a whole new offering to Cookie and lets us ramp up our licensed offering to customers. We’re now introducing Milanese-style bar evenings where patrons are invited to drop in for a drink or two whilst sampling a selection of nibbles on the house – from salami, a selection of cheeses and some crudites.

“Our policy is to offer seasonal and local food and drink and the quality of St Mungo meant that I was keen to have it available on tap at Cookie. We opened with the express purpose of bringing something new to the southside and St Mungo helps us do just that!”

As well as offering an eatery, deli and shop, Cookie operates as a club, bar, off license, a food and wine importer and a gallery promoting design and art. The outlet seeks to break down the barriers between food production, distribution, preparation and consumption from its base at 72 Nithsdale Road, Strathbungo, Glasgow.

Based in the iconic Templeton Building, WEST operates a full production brewery and is home to a stylish beer hall and restaurant with a beer garden overlooking Glasgow Green.
