Small Breweries Go WEST to Discuss Formation of Scottish Small Brewers Association

Scotland’s leading small brewers are meeting today (28.01.10) at WEST, Glasgow’s independent brewery based in the iconic Templeton Building at Glasgow Green, to discuss the formation of a Scottish Small Brewers Association.

The initiative is the brainchild of WEST’s German MD Petra Wetzel who, having discovered that there is no existing dedicated forum for Scottish brewers which facilitates the exchange of ideas amongst the various breweries in Scotland.

Ms Wetzel said, “The idea behind this round table discussion is to spend the afternoon considering issues surrounding brewing, such as packaging, bottling and distribution, amongst the representatives of our Scottish breweries with the evening being open to a select group of industry representatives from suppliers to key beer buyers for some networking and mingling.

“There is strength in unity and I’m convinced that, together, Scotland’s small brewers can raise the profile of our products amongst consumers internationally, to all our benefit. And judging by the enthusiastic response from the industry to this initiative, I’m confident that this initial meeting should lead to the formation of a Scottish Small Brewers Association.”

WEST operates a full production brewery and is home to a stylish beer hall and restaurant with a beer garden overlooking Glasgow Green.
