Musselburgh Racecourse is rolling out all the fun of the fair at East Lothian’s largest Easter Sunday gathering. (Sun April 4)
The Easter Sunday Race Day marks the start of the flat season at Musselburgh with a host of family free attractions.
In addition to seven horse races with a prize fund of £57,000, families of all ages can enjoy a fun-filled programme, including fairground rides, dodgem cars, magicians and face painters.
The Easter Bunny will be a special guest, with chocolate treats for young race goers and competitions held throughout the afternoon include prizes of Luca’s ice cream and Easter treats for the kids, with bottles of champagne, free tote bets and race day tickets for the adults.
Channel 4 racing pundit, Derek Thomson, will also be working his way around the paddock, giving tips on the runners and riders and providing an insight into the world of horse racing for first time visitors.
A crowd of more than 4000 is expected and gates open at 11.30am with the first race off at 2.20pm.
Musselburgh Racecourse commercial manager, Sarah Montgomery, said: “After a difficult jumps season in which we suffered like everyone else because of the adverse weather we can’t wait to get the flat season off and running.
“Easter Sunday has developed in to a great family day and it’s a perfect way to get our flat season off to a flyer. If the weather is kind we expect a large crowd and a good mix of regulars race goers and families enjoying the Easter weekend.
“There is something for everyone, no matter what age, and parents will have plenty of time to enjoy the racing with the youngsters well catered for with lots of free attractions.”
Feature race of the seven card meeting is the £20,000 totesuper7 Musselburgh Gold Cup handicap, which is the fourth race and run over 1 mile 6 furlongs.
Adult entry is £20, all children 16 and under are admitted free and online discounts are available if booking in advance. Visit www.musselburgh-racecourse.co.uk for more details.
