Oilfield technical website, www.drillers.com announces the launch of its new and improved website that will provide oilfield professionals with online tools and e-learning modules to improve performance and aid career development.
The upgraded website, designed and developed by AVC Creative Ltd, is a result of several months of in-depth analysis, design and programming to align the site with the company’s new brand image and strategic goals.
Commenting on the new website launch, Steve Devereux of Drillers.com Inc. said, “Passing on knowledge to future generations of oilfield professionals is part of our vision. Our website has always been an important tool for us to share industry knowledge and experience. The ongoing mission is to provide online tools, information and e-learning modules, as well as training and mentoring services that will help improve overall performance of oilfield professionals.”
The new website provides many Web 2.0 tools and technical features like online Mathcad™ worksheets, safety alerts index, drilling manual, online learning materials, European compliant e-portfolio and multimedia library. In addition, there are features like job search, professional networking, blogging and information on various training courses.
Elaborating on the advanced technical features, Steve says, “The online Mathcad™ worksheets will provide auditable standard oilfield calculations, while the index of over 1800 safety alerts will help to easily find safety alerts and information relevant to planned operations by just searching the index.
“We plan to make the drilling manual a wiki capable oilfield knowledge base that can grow into a repository of oilfield information for future generations. This manual, along with other e-learning modules, will allow just-in-time learning to gain new information and continually refresh your knowledge.”
With a total of 8,600 members currently registered onto Drillers.com, Steve’s aim is to double membership by end of 2010. “With oil and gas companies playing a critical role in economic development, we want to reach oilfield professionals across the globe and encourage them to participate in building the oilfield knowledge base. The intention is to create a community, where subject matter experts should consider moderating and mentoring in their specialist area and allow the oilfield knowledge base to spread beyond the drilling realm”, said Steve.
In the coming weeks, Drillers.com will be introducing other technical features like the operations research tools and iPhone applications. The operations research tools, currently being developed in partnership with the University of Pau in France and Aquaterra, can be used to optimise decisions under conditions of uncertainty and risk, thus having the potential to save significant costs in the future.
iPhone apps are being launched to cater to the growing band of techno savvy oilfield professionals who can use these applications to connect to the mathcad worksheets and to access jobs that match their individual skills and objectives.
