INVERNESS-BASED radio station MFR has taken one step closer to picking up an industry Oscar.
The popular station has been shortlisted in the Station of the Year (under 300,000 listeners) category in the Sony Radio Academy Awards 2010.
MFR already scooped the Radio Academy’s Station of the Year for Scotland earlier this year, and is the only Bauer Scotland station to receive a nomination at this year’s Sony Awards.
The local commercial station, which covers the largest geographical area in mainland UK and includes the Highlands, Moray and parts of Aberdeenshire, has won the award three times in the last four years.
Danny Gallagher, Managing Director at MFR, is delighted with the achievement.
“I’m absolutely thrilled we have been recognised for something that we all love doing. The team at MFR is one of the best in the business and much of the credit has to go to everyone who works so hard to make our station what it is. I believe that our dedication to the local community and our superb listeners have made us the market leader in our area and the UK mainland’s no.1 station.”
“I’d like to say well done everyone who helped make our award entry stand out. I hope the judges enjoyed our submission as much as we enjoyed making it; now we just have to hold our breath and hope we clinch the prize.”
Graham Bryce, Managing Director at Bauer Radio Scotland, added:
“I’d like to congratulate everyone in the MFR team on their nomination. It is a fantastic achievement for a station that is absolutely delivering on every measure in the market. I wish them luck for the night, and sincerely hope the team lands the much deserved gold.”
The winners will be announced at the 28th annual Sony Radio Academy Awards on Monday May 10th at The Grosvenor House Hotel, London.
