His Excellency Ambassador of Slovenia to the Court of St James, Iztok Jarc, visited Edinburgh this week to forge new economic and cultural links with Scotland.
At the invitation of Consul General of the Republic of Slovenia in Scotland, Mrs. Ana Wersun, he attended a reception in the European Parliament offices on Wednesday night to mark the elevation of Slovenia’s mission in Scotland to General Consulate.
Sadly, other members of the planned delegation could not make it due to flight restrictions imposed in the wake of the Icelandic volcanic eruption. Mr. Janez Fajfar, the mayor of the Slovenian municipality of Bled, and two respected Slovene chefs who were due to join the Ambassador in Scotland’s capital for a traditional Slovenian cookery demonstration.
On the successful visit, Consul General Ana Wersun said: “I was delighted with the way the reception went on Wednesday evening and the presences of so many distinguished guests from Scotland's political, business and cultural communities is testimony to the increasing number of links we have.
“Scotland and Slovenia are very similar in many respects and this visit will provide us all with the perfect chance to build new business and tourism links between both. Now the mission in Scotland has been elevated to that of a General Consulate, there was no better time to further progress the excellent trade and cultural links between both countries.”
