The Houston Inn

With a history stretching back to 1784, The Houston Inn is a traditional country inn in the village of Houston, a short drive from Glasgow city centre. And traditional values are reflected in the inn’s new summer menu comprising a selection of well-loved Scottish dishes such as mince and tatties, homemade steak pie, beer battered haddock and bangers and mash brought back by popular demand.

Houston Inn manager Caroline Kinnaird said, “Many favourite dishes, like chicken pot pie and breaded scampi, are as popular today as they ever were so it makes sense to bring  back a selection of traditional Scottish food with freshly produced dishes featuring locally sourced produce to complement other food on our menu from around the world.

“No doubt my predecessor was serving up traditional Sunday roast back in 1784, certainly our traditional Sunday roast with all the trimmings is proving very popular with diners to this day, as is our haggis gateaux starter – a stacked tower of haggis, neeps and tatties drizzled in a whisky sauce – as customers continue to show a renewed appetite for traditional fare!”

In addition to daily specials, The Houston Inn’s new summer dinner menu includes such tempting starters as: chef’s stock pot soup, chicken liver pate, steamed mussels and potato skins. Mains include: Scottish salmon fillet; 8oz chargrilled fillet or sirloin steak; chicken Caesar salad; salmon niscoise salad and a range of delicious pasta and pizza dishes.

Meanwhile, desserts include: chocolate profiteroles; crème brulee; Houston cheesecake; hot apple pie; hot chocolate fudge cake; banoffee pie and assorted ice creams.

Lunch time specials include one course for £6.95, two courses for £7.95 and three courses for £9.95.

The Houston Inn’s 70 cover restaurant offering flavoursome traditional fare using locally sourced ingredients is complemented by a 50 capacity beer garden. The Inn has a range of comfortable family, twin, double and single rooms, each offering a relaxed, out of town atmosphere. All rooms come with TV/satellite, hospitality trays and a business desk. The inn also provides free parking.
