The Outdoor Capital Trail Half Marathon – Scotland

In less than a week the stunning mountain bike and walking trails of the Nevis Range, near Fort William, will play host to the inaugural Outdoor Capital Trail Half Marathon, Scotland’s newest off road half marathon, and 5k Fun Run.

On Sunday 16 May 2010, 100 trail running beginners and experienced ‘mountain goats’, will be amongst the first to test themselves on world famous mountain biking trails, used during the legendary World Cup, World Championships and Benromach Ten Under The Ben mountain bike events.

The 21.1 kilometre figure of eight loop utilises forestry roads, disused narrow gauge railway line and cycling and walking tracks within Forestry Commission Scotland’s Leanachan Forest.  It also includes stages of the new Cour Trail that winds its way towards Spean Bridge offering stunning views of the Great Glen, the Grey Corries and Ben Nevis.

Chloe Patterson of organisers No Fuss Events, thrilled to be able to make such a unique event happen, said: “This is our first trail half marathon event and like our other events the emphasis is firmly on a fun with a friendly atmosphere for runners of all abilities.  Entrants can expect a challenging but manageable course of stunning beauty and a warm welcome at the finish!”

The race takes place the day after the No Fuss flagship mountain biking event, Benromach 10 Under The Ben, so the hills really will be alive with the sound of music and mountain bikers who are still keen to run off some energy and keen to take part in an event without the aid of wheels.

Chloe Patterson added: “With over 900 signed up for 10 Under The Ben on Saturday, it is going to be a new and exciting challenge for us to get everything ready for our first running event on Sunday. We are confident that the course will be well received and the field will enjoy some of the best trails with the best views that the Outdoor Capital of the UK has to offer.  If you are up for the challenge there is still time to sign up.”

Runners can register their £20 race fee online at www.nofussevents.co.uk . Pre race registration will take place between 17:00 and 19:00 on Saturday evening and from 07:00 at the saddlespan at the Nevis Range HQ on the Sunday morning. The Outdoor Capital Trail Half Marathon starts at 12:00.
