After selling her first tailored suit in 1909, Coco Chanel became synonymous with dressing for success for both work and play.
Drawing inspiration from the French designer’s concept, Glasgow Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with the city’s top clothing brands to host a networking evening with a difference. The Dress for Success event, featuring an exclusive runway show, will be held tonight (Wednesday 23rd June) at the stylish 29 bar on Royal Exchange Square.
The event comes just weeks after the annual CACI Retail Footprint confirmed Glasgow as the UK’s second biggest retail destination the UK, ahead of Liverpool, Manchester and, last year’s number 2, Birmingham. The independent report indicated an estimated £2,550m will be spent in the city’s retail sector this year.
Glasgow Chamber of Commerce’s commercial director, Richard Muir, said: “Given the recent success of Glasgow’s Style Mile, Glasgow Chamber of Commerce is delighted to be hosting the brand new Dress for Success event which will highlight that appearances can make a difference in business activity. This exciting event is bringing together leading Glasgow retailers to showcase their new ranges which are aimed at a complete variety of staff from different businesses proving that dressing for success can be achieved regardless of budget or time constraints.”
The evening, hosted by BBC stylist Michelle Colletta, is expected to attract close to 100 guests from Glasgow’s business community and will combine high fashion with corporate networking and business development.
In addition to the fashion show, Glasgow Chamber of Commerce director and chief executive of GTG Training, David Scott, will give a keynote speech on leadership, business and personal development and offer advice on boosting confidence and motivation.
The ‘Dress for Success’ show featuring models drawn from Glasgow’s very own business community, including The BIG Partnership, Stop Press! Media, Bellcom, Dunning and GTG Training, will demonstrate how important appearance can be in helping to succeed in the business world.
The stylish volunteers will parade the catwalk on the evening in clothing provided by top Glasgow retailers Forbes & Harper, Cruise, Thomas Pink and Slaters with hair styled by James Dun’s House.
