10 Dates With Mad Mary (Ireland) – UK Premiere at Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2010

The UK premiere of Calipo Theatre Company's critically acclaimed romantic comedy , 10 Dates With Mad Mary by Yasmine Akram, will be staged at Pleasance Dome from Wednesday 4 to Sunday 29 August as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2010.

Mary McArdle is the toughest fighter in town, a title that earned her the moniker 'Mad Mary' when she was 15. Now she's 25 and and returning home after serving a six month stretch.

Back home, everything has changed. All the old gang have grown up, and the only thing Mary has to look forward to is being bridesmaid at her best friend's wedding. But even this comes at a price – she has to find a date for the big day,  and finding a date in a town where everyone knows your name is not going to be easy.

Calipo is a Drogheda (Ireland) based arts organisation that operates on three levels: as a theatre company, an outreach facilitator, and as a film & television production company.
Calipo Theatre Company is one of Irelands most exciting and innovative producers of theatre. Recent successes include 10 Dates with Mad Mary by Yasmine Akram (Droichead Arts Centre 2009/Project 2010);  All Over Town by Phillip McMahon (Project 2009) and  Wunderkind by Darren Thornton (Project Dublin 06/Edinburgh Festival 07). Calipo outreach runs various youth film and drama projects around the country annually, including the award-winning Sharp focus youth film project. Calipo pictures have various film and TV projects in development, the most recent production – the short film Frankie – received awards and accolades from all over the world, including the PRIX/UIP award at the Berlin film festival and the European Film Academy Award for best short film in 2008.  
 Yasmine Akram/Writer
Drogheda born Yasmine studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). As an actor she has appeared in many of Calipo's earlier productions, including Xaviers, Love is the Drug and Makin' Hits. She has written DryWrite, London Bytes and the New Comedy Showcase. 10 Dates with Mad Mary is Yasmine' s first play. Yasmine is currently are working on her first radio series: Ford and Akram do… which will be directed by Alistair McGowan  and she is currently developing a sitcom with the BBC, based on her life and in which she will play the main role.

Caoilfhionn Dunne/Actress
Caoilfhionn trained at the Gaiety School of Acting. Recent parts include: Monica in Christ Deliver Us  and  Lena in  The Last Days of a  Reluctant Tyrant at the Abbey Theatre;  Sarah Tansey in  Playboy of the Western World for Druid Theatre Company's American Tour;  Maudie in The Sanctuary Lamp for b*spoke Theatre Company;  Lady MacDuff in Macbeth for Siren Productions and Helicon  in  Caligula for Rough Magic Theatre Company.  Film/TV credits include; Jesse in Hugh O'Connor's Corduroy and Charlotte in Little White Lies.

Darren Thornton/Director
Darren Thornton founded Calipo Theatre and Picture Company in 1994 and has been Artistic Director since then. He co-wrote and directed the award winning TV series, Love is the Drug for RTE. His short film Frankie has won many prestigious awards at international festivals, including the Prix UIP at the Berlin Film Festival, and the European Academy Award for Best Short Film in 2008. For Calipo Theatre Company Darren has written and directed many of the company's theatre productions including – Xaviers, Makin Hits, Love is the Drug, and Wunderkind.
