Young entrepreneur, Kirsty Mussett from Helensburgh is proving that weddings are blissful business with the success of her own wedding consultancy and a recently opened new bridal shop.
Kirsty, 23, graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2007 with a BA Degree in Business and Management and began work as a wedding coordinator at the Lodge on Loch Lomond Hotel in Luss. Whilst she greatly enjoyed her job, she had always had a long held ambition to start her own company as an independent wedding planner. Both Kirsty's parents had previously run their own businesses so it was just a matter of time before the opportunity arose for Kirsty to branch out on her own.
Kirsty founded Your Wedding Consultant in March last year with the support of The Prince’s Scottish Youth Business Trust (PSYBT) which supports 18-25 year olds to set up and continue in business. To date, she has been involved in the planning for over 100 weddings, including her own and a large number of functions for corporate clients.
In January this year Kirsty expanded her business with the opening of her own bridal shop in Helensburgh. This allowed her to provide a seamless service, from providing advice and expertise through to helping clients plan every individual aspect of their big day, including the purchase of bridal gowns, bridesmaid dresses, occasion wear, veils, tiaras and much more.
“The most important thing is to be customer focused at all times,” says Kirsty. “My business is all about delivering exactly what the customer wants. I am there to help and support them to have the day they truly want and deserve. Attention to detail is essential and although like any event management job, it can be stressful, it is also wonderful to see the plans come together. Knowing that I have played a part in a couple’s happiness and lifetime memories is very satisfying.
Commenting on her plans for the future Kirsty said, “Over the course of the next year, I'd like to bring in a new designer within my bridal gown collection and introduce more bridesmaid collections to the shop. My event management experience means I'm increasingly getting asked to do freelance event work for local businesses so that is another area which I would like to develop over the next 12 months.”
Commenting PSYBT Regional Manager Sharita Padaruth said, “Kirsty is doing extremely well in her first year of working for herself with not only one business but two. Her communication, organisational, and people skills plus a huge enthusiasm for what she does are proving to be hugely popular with customers and I'm sure she'll continue to grow both businesses. We look forward to supporting and watching her future success.
