Welding Group Serimax Gears Up for North Sea Expansion

International welding group, Serimax, has appointed a new director as it prepares to extend its North Sea business.

Kenny Spink has been appointed regional director responsible for activities in the UK and Scandinavia. He will be based at the company’s Scottish base in Evanton near Inverness and joins Serimax after six years with RBG Ltd where he was commercial manager.

Mr Spink will be responsible for more than 130 staff at Evanton and has been charged with identifying diversification opportunities and extending the Serimax base’s fabrication services.

Serimax provides full service welding encompassing marine pipelines, spoolbase, landlines and fabrication, and is part of the Vallourec group which is a world leader in tubular solutions, has a market capitalisation exceeding €8bn, and employs 18,000 people in more than 20 countries.

Clients with whom Serimax have worked with include major oil and gas operators and service companies, including BP, Acergy, Subsea 7, Global Offshore Industries, TLO, Horizon and Sheehan Pipelines. The company also provides pipeline fabrication services for three of Technip’s spoolbases – in the USA, Angola and in Evanton, Scotland – where fabricated pipe is spooled onto pipelay vessels.

Serimax chief executive officer, David Williams, said: “Our skilled workforce and fabrication facility at Evanton plays a major role in the services we can offer to clients operating in the UK and Norwegian North Sea and Kenny’s appointment strengthens that offering and our international management team.

“We are keen to develop the fabrication expertise we have in place and have identified diversification opportunities in the UKCS. Kenny will play an important part in growing our business in the northern European market and supporting our training school which is a centre of excellence for the whole Serimax group.”

Kenny Spink added: “I am delighted to be joining a progressive, innovative company which is a world leader in full service welding. One of my main objectives will be to support and strengthen the relationship with our major spoolbase client, Technip, but I am also looking forward to leading an exceptionally committed team in guiding the Serimax band in to new markets.”
