Stefano Giovanazzi, proprietor at Paperino’s, Glasgow’s favourite Italian restaurant chain, has issued a heartfelt thank you to all customers of his West End outlet on Byres Road for the loyalty they displayed following the catastrophic breakdown of an oven fan in the kitchen of the restaurant earlier this week.

The malfunctioning oven fan meant that the restaurant could only offer customers a restricted menu for several days until a replacement had been sourced and fitted.

Mr Giovanazzi said, “We are known for our range of fresh pasta, pizza and meat and fish dishes, but the failure of the fan earlier this week meant that we had to restrict our menu to little more than pizzas for a few days.

“Whilst this was no cause for concern for pizza lovers, we were very grateful when many of our regulars simply relocated to our other outlets in Sauchiehall Street and St Vincent Street rather than miss out on their favourite dishes. Such customer loyalty was tremendous and I’d like to thank all our fan-tastic customers for their understanding.”

The response to the fan failure from 23 year old Emily Lamb, a regular at Paperino’s West End, was typical.

“I was gutted when I turned up at the Byres Road restaurant only to be informed that, due to the broken fan, I couldn’t have my favourite Pappardelle alla Paperino pasta dish – but as soon as I discovered that the dish was available at their other outlets in the city I rushed straight out and hailed a taxi to Sauchiehall Street,” she said.

“I was a little bit sceptical but can report that the Pappardelle alla Paperino was just as good at Sauchiehall Street – which is great to know because if I’m ever in need of a pasta fix in the city centre, now I know where to go!”

Happily, though, Paperino’s West End now has a brand new fan in situ and is once more able to offer its full range of fresh pasta, pizza and meat and fish dishes to all its regular customers. And the good news is that, fresh from celebrating its fifth birthday last month, the restaurant has just been short-listed for a prestigious Family Outlet of the Year Award.
