New Role to Inspire Confidence Over Sensitive Deliveries

SCOTLAND’S leading independent courier company has hired a new contracts manager to oversee the firm’s handling of sensitive and confidential deliveries.

Former DHL Transport Manager Richard Beaton will head Eagle Couriers’ contracts with major public sector clients, including the Government Car and Despatch Agency (GCDA) and Scotland Excel, which provides courier services to the Government and local councils in Scotland.

The 42-year-old from East Kilbride, who also worked for six years as an operations manager with Scottish Citylink, will take specific responsibility over deliveries of sensitive government documents – a key role given recent high profile delivery problems.

Richard, who’ll be based between Eagle Couriers’ offices in Glasgow and Edinburgh, will also be in charge of identifying new major clients to add to the firm’s growing list of contracts across Scotland.

Richard said: “The issue of handling important documents and data has come back into the news recently and there is some nervousness about how this sort of information is being delivered.

“In recent weeks, we’ve heard about a disc full of confidential emergency calls and data being mislaid by delivery drivers, while earlier this year there was a series of incidents reported where sensitive government information was lost in transit, including millions of child benefit and DVLA files.

“It’s important that our clients continue to feel confident about the service we provide and remember that, as we are a privately owned, independent company, we do not experience these types of incidents. In addition to bringing more big contacts to Eagle Couriers, I see my job as the chance to discuss these issues with our existing clients and to reassure them that their deliveries are in safe hands.

“We have some big contracts with major firms, as well as being an approved company for the Scottish Government and for councils across the country. My job will be to liaise with these different clients and oversee the delivery of our service to them – ensuring that we are seen as a trusted, secure firm that will make their deliveries on-time and in the strictest of confidence.

“It will be a different experience from my previous work with DHL and Scottish Citylink, but I am looking forward to the challenge. Eagle Couriers are a dynamic, well-respected independent company and that is what attracted me to this position.”

Richard’s appointment is a major coup for Eagle Couriers, who have almost 30 years experience in the Scottish courier industry. The firm employs 85 staff at their bases in Glasgow and Edinburgh and enjoys an annual turnover of
