Independent Living Services – Best Overall Provider 2009

Alloa-based care company Independent Living Services (ILS) has won Best Overall Provider at the recent Scottish Care at Home Awards. ILS was selected from more than 200 entries as the winner at an award ceremony celebrating the brightest stars in the care industry.

ILS, which was nominated in a number of categories including Adult Employee of the Year and Trainer of the Year categories, was also runner-up in the Innovation of the Year.

Kevin Scullion, managing director at ILS said: “We’re delighted to have won this award. In the past year, we have invested heavily in our infrastructure, improving training and facilities for staff and the continually improving the care we offer across Scotland. This award recognises the hard-work of not just our management team but more importantly all our front line staff.”

Now in their third year, the awards have been hailed a huge success with more entries than ever before from service users, employers and employees nominating peers and colleagues. The awards were judged by Carole Wilkinson, CEO of Scottish Social Services Council, Hugh Mills, CEO for independent health and care providers Northern Ireland, Allan Hosie, managing director of Orrkerrdykes and Simon Kerr from Clydesdale Bank.

The ceremony followed a full-day of conference for the care sector where representatives including Shona Robison, Minister for Public Health and Sport, Marcia Ramsay from the Care Commission and Alan Baird Director of Social Work in Dundee addressed care sector workers on various issues of the day affecting commissioners, providers, staff and care service users.

ILS, which is headquartered in Alloa, operates a network of eight offices throughout Scotland and will soon be opening in Galabank Business Park, Galashiels. The company provides flexible, responsive and accountable care at home services to enable individuals to live within the community. The organisation, which is now the largest independent provider of care at home services in Scotland, employs over 900 staff delivering over 28,000 hours of care per week and works in partnership with 20 local authorities to provide specialist services in three main areas – adults with a disability, older peoples’ services and support for children and families.
