Three young composers studying Music at Stevenson College Edinburgh will perform their own re-mixes of a new commission by Paragon Music at 7pm on 9 December in the Music Box auditorium at Stevenson.
This exciting new Paragon Music commission from composer, Tommy Fowler who is also a composition lecturer at Stevenson, is scored for strings and woodwind and has been specifically devised for sampling and digital processing by one of the UK’s most successful Bhangra, Hip Hop DJ artists, Tigerstyle.
The students, Callum Rickard, Jahan Tabrizi and Polly Davison studying Music Performance, assisted the recording engineer when Paragon players recorded Tommy Fowler’s new work, and later attended workshops lead by Tigerstyle in how to manipulate sampled material and create a digital mix of their own using Tommy’s piece.
Paragon and Tigerstyle will give a performance of the works, featuring Tommy Fowler’s new work, their own new re-mix and those of the students. The performance will be repeated in Glasgow at the CCA on the 11 December.
Paragon, Tigerstyle and Tommy Fowler have agreed to share all copyright rights associated with the material created through the project. Paragon and Tommy Fowler also agree that the young composers at Stevenson will have copyright over their own pieces.
Tommy Fowler said:
“This is a great opportunity for our young talent to work with artists of the highest calibre and to perform their work to a live audience. The fact Paragon have agreed to let our students have copyright, demonstrates their professionalism and willingness to encourage new talent.”
With Tigerstyle’s unique Punjabi sound their remix will be an experimental new mix of music, classical music and contemporary electronica with a Bhangra feel. The programme will end with a live version of the Tigerstyle mix with the Paragon players interacting with the DJ’s.
