Edinburgh Alcohol and Drug Partnership Appoints New Manager

The Edinburgh Alcohol and Drug Partnership (EADP) has appointed a new joint programme manager to play a lead role in the new organisation.

Nick Smith who joins the Edinburgh Alcohol and Drug Partnership this week (w/c 21 June), worked previously for Surrey Primary Care Trust, as a Senior Commissioning Manager, commissioning young people and adult drug treatment services.

Peter Gabbitas, Chair of the Edinburgh Alcohol and Drug Partnership, said:  We are delighted with Nick’s appointment and with the wealth of experience in alcohol and drug services he will bring to the team.  We welcome this opportunity for a fresh approach and ideas.”

Nick will take a strong leadership role at the Edinburgh Alcohol and Drug Partnership and will be key in developing the organisation’s new strategy.

Nick Smith, said:  “I am looking forward to this challenging and exciting role working with a wide range of partner organisations. I hope that my many years of experience working in the area of substance misuse will help me to assist the team to develop and implement a local drugs and alcohol strategy.

The Edinburgh Alcohol and Drug Partnership replaced the previous Alcohol and Drug Action Team in Edinburgh in 2009.

The EADP will lead on the development and delivery of services to tackle alcohol and drug misuse in the city.

The Alcohol and Drug Partnerships were created in response to a Government requirement for each local planning area to have a local Alcohol and Drug Partnership.

There are three Alcohol and Drug Partnerships in Lothian, formed in October this year, Edinburgh Alcohol and Drug Partnership, West Lothian Tobacco, Alcohol and Drug Partnership and Mid and East Lothian Alcohol and Drug Partnership.
