Last Chance to Sail on Scottish Viking to Europe

Travellers are being given the chance to sail for unbeatable prices on Scotland’s only direct ferry to Europe before the passenger route closes later this year.

DFDS Norfolkline is planning a range of cut price ‘last chance to sail’ offers on the Scottish Viking from Rosyth, Fife, to Zeebrugge, Belgium, between October and mid December – the date that the route will no longer operate as a passenger service.

In the first of these, DFDS Norfolkline has joined with city break experts Osprey Holidays, Scotland’s leading independent family-run tour operator, to offer a series of package breaks to Bruges – providing a fantastic saving of £50 per person.

Travellers can pick up a return overnight crossing from Rosyth to Zeebrugge, plus one night accommodation with breakfast in a two, three or four star hotel in Bruges and transfers from only £169 per person.

Chris Newey, Passenger Services Director for the English Channel and Scotland to Belgium, said: “Although the decision to stop the passenger service has been a disappointment, the route is very much operating as normal until mid December.

“So we wanted to ensure that people seize the opportunity for the last chance to sail on the Scottish Viking by offering them a range of discount fares and deals.

“We think these deals are exceptional and will be snapped up very quickly – particularly by those people who have always fancied the idea of ferry trip from Scotland to Belgium or others planning a late season break or visit to the continent.

“In particular the combined package with Osprey Holidays of travel and accommodation in Bruges will be appealing to those who would like to explore the city with ease.”

The offer is available for new bookings (subject to availability) on sailings departing between 1st October and 11th December by phone on 0131 243 8098 or  Prices are based on two people sharing a cabin for selected departure dates. The last departure from Rosyth is 11th December. Full terms and conditions are available on

DFDS Norfolkline began operating the Rosyth-Zeebrugge service in May 2009, allowing thousands of passengers to enjoy the benefits of avoiding the long drive south to Europe as well as the service’s leisurely overnight crossing.

The Scottish Viking sails three times a week from both ports and with onboard facilities that include a restaurant, bar, cinema and children’s play area, there are plenty of opportunities for passengers of all ages to sit back, enjoy the journey and arrive in Europe refreshed and relaxed.

DFDS Norfolkline recently announced its Rosyth to Zeebrugge route will no longer operate as a combined passenger and freight service and from mid-December will operate solely as a freight-only route.

Michael Bennett, managing director of Osprey Holidays, said: “The Rosyth to Zeebrugge route has always been a firm favourite with Osprey Holidays clients and we’ll be very sorry to see it go.

“Our clients loved the direct journey to the continent and the chance to visit Bruges – one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.

“The service will continue to run until mid-December and we would encourage passengers to take advantage of this final opportunity to use the service.”
