THE charitable arm of a wealth management firm has donated almost £70,000 towards a new centre for North-east cancer support charity CLAN.
St James’s Place Foundation has given £69,500 to help create two rooms designated for the Children’s Therapy Wing and a Family Room in CLAN Haven at the new CLAN House on Westburn Road in Aberdeen.
St. James’s Place Foundation is the charitable arm of the St. James’s Place Wealth Management Group and funds hundreds of projects every year with the aim of improving the quality of life for people in need. Funds are raised through the efforts and generosity of staff at branches across the UK, with the company matching the total amount.
The Foundation is on target to raise more than £2 million for good causes by the end of this year.
Steve McKnight, senior partner of St James’s Place Partnership in Aberdeen, said: “CLAN first came to my attention through some of my clients who were full of praise for the charity. When I visited them, I was blown away by the amount that they do to help people, from providing accommodation for those visiting Aberdeen for medical appointments to the little things that matter, like helping to find suitable headwear to preserve the dignity of those who are undergoing treatment.
“St James’s Place Foundation has helped a lot of local charities so we are delighted to be able to help CLAN in its plans to build a new centre. The work that they do is critical for the North and East of Scotland and we wish them every success in raising more funds.”
Susan Crighton, fundraising manager for CLAN, added: “We are very grateful to St James Place Foundation for this extremely generous donation, which will fund the creation of two rooms designated for the Children’s Therapy Wing and a Family Room in CLAN Haven. This will help children who are directly and indirectly affected by cancer, many whom are facing the devastating news of a parent, grandparent or sibling being diagnosed with terminal cancer.
“Having the support of local companies as well as the public is what has allowed us to realise our dream of building a new centre, which will strengthen our ability to provide a wide range of services to all those affected by cancer.”
CLAN is an independent charity which offers support to anyone affected by cancer. Based in Aberdeen, the charity covers the whole of Grampian, Orkney and Shetland. CLAN is also developing services in the community and now has a presence in Ballater, Inverurie, Peterhead, Stonehaven, Orkney and Shetland.
