Search Launched to Identify for Scot of the Year

Record number of Scottish women in the running as Scottish charity in London announces nominees for Scot of the Year 2010. The list includes, SuBo, Alexander McQueen, Gillian McKeith and Tommy Sheridan.

ScotsCare, the charity for Scots in London in need and distress have announced the nominees for Scot of the year 2010. Previous winners of the annual vote include Gordon Brown and Chris Hoy with Gerard Butler just beating Susan Boyle to the title in 2009.

2010 has been another great year for Scots in a variety of areas and this year recognises the achievements of our Scottish women with more women than ever making the nominee list. This year the nominees come from the worlds of Fashion, Film, Sport, Politics, TV and more.

The full list is as follows;

  • Alexander McQueen: For his unbridled genius, deep love of Scotland and passion for tartan
  • Susan Boyle: For her 2nd No1 album on both sides of the Atlantic. There’s no stopping SuBO
  • Gillian McKeith:  For showing us that all Scots aren’t stereotypical hardmen or women
  • Hannah Miley: For her Commonwealth Gold medallist and Scottish Sportsperson of the Year Award for 2010
  • Ewan McGregor: For his Best Actor Award at the European Film Awards for ‘Ghost’
  • Andy Robinson: For another successful year for Scottish rugby including a win over South Africa
  • Tommy Sheridan: For showing his fighting spirit
  • Colin Montgomerie: For inspirational leadership of the winning Ryder Cup team
  • Elena Baltacha: For reaching a career high ranking and becoming British No1
  • Kevin Bridges: For his breakthrough year as Scotland’s new top comedian
  • Gordon Brown: For a dignified exit
  • Susan Philipsz: For winning the Turner Prize

The list is available to vote on through the charity website, The winner will be announced to mark Burns Day on the 25th of January.
