Celebrated chef Albert Roux OBE will dish out Michelin-starred advice to students at City of Glasgow College as part of a special charity lunch in aid of Scottish charity, the Hospitality Industry Trust (HIT) Scotland.
French-born Albert will mentor a group of Higher Professional Cookery and Hospitality students to deliver a mouth watering French lunch experience on Friday 18th February.
The fundraising event takes place at Scholars’, the popular college training restaurant on Cathedral Street, and is being attended by top hoteliers and restaurateurs throughout Glasgow, alongside a group from HIT Scotland, who recently conquered Mount Kilimanjaro to host the world’s highest group Burns supper.
HIT Scotland provides scholarships to students and emerging talent working in Scotland in order to raise aspirations and standards in the industry. The charity recently awarded £250,000 worth of scholarships to 110 people, including four students from City of Glasgow College.
Willie McCurrach, Head of Food at City of Glasgow College commented: “We are delighted to have the support and expertise of Albert and his team from Chez Roux. We’re also grateful to them for matching and sponsoring a selection of wines that will compliment the meal. It will be a very memorable occasion for our students, staff and guests.”
Gordon McIntyre, Head of Hospitality, added: “I can think of no better way to celebrate the hospitality industry than in the company of one of the Roux brothers. I’m looking forward to a successful event whilst raising money for the excellent work of HIT Scotland. There is no charge for the event instead we are encouraging donations towards HIT Scotland’s Kilimanjaro fundraising expedition.”
Albert and his brother Michel’s restaurant Le Gavroche was the first in the UK to be recognised with three Michelin stars. The Chez Roux Empire has been developing in Scotland, with restaurants in Inverness, Lochinver and Gullane.
