Glasgow-based Spider Online, one of Scotland’s top digital agencies, has been nominated for a major award at this year’s Drum Awards for Digital Industries (DADIs). This is the second time this year the agency has been nominated for a national award.
Spider Online was the only Scottish agency to have been nominated for a UK Marketing Society’s e-commerce Award in April, where they were up against international brands including Marks and Spencer, Aviva and LoveFilm.
Spider Online’s client Golden Charter, one of the leaders in Funeral Services Planning, has been nominated for a DADI in the ‘Financial Services’ category. The agency’s redesign transformed Golden Charter’s website from an online brochure into a complete funeral planning facility, delivering vastly improved commercial performance via sales and enquiries.
Spider Online’s Managing Director John Campbell said, “We have always worked hard to provide our clients with digital solutions that are imaginative, efficient and effective. We also aim to underpin each project with the best research available and then marry high quality digital design with our innovative technical approach”.
The new website focuses on the strapline “Giving you peace of mind about the future” and enables customers to compare prices while delivering advice on all aspects of planning a funeral, including a directory of 2,700 independent funeral directors. In the first three months from launch, traffic rose 600%, sales increased 11 times and enquiries through the site climbed 60%. The number of brochures sent out rose 250% in the first 10 months of 2010 while the cost per sale fell from £514 to £183.
Spider Online were also heavily involved in COSLA’s myjobscotland portal for local government jobs in Scotland, their second digital project shortlisted at this year’s DADI’s. The agency were commissioned to work closely with the Lumesse ATS (Application Tracking System) to improve site navigation and user perception, with a strong emphasis on search results, layout and vacancy pages. Fully user tested by Bunnyfoot, the new site has streamlined menu options giving easier access to the content, a comprehensive overhaul of the SEO and tagging, improved navigation including signposting and developed more evident shortcuts on the home page and top levels of the site.
John added: “While we always know that winning awards is not the be-all and end-all, we’re delighted to be nominated, especially as the work involved is not in areas – funerals and public sector recruitment – that are normally regarded as glamorous. However, the fact that we’re now starting to be nominated more often for awards is a terrific reflection of the quality of the team here at Spider. Winning would be nice, but just being in with a shout for a prestigious award like a DADI is fantastic in itself.”
