WordPress's WordAds – QueryClick Comment

There is no doubt that WordPress is considered one the most recognised and renowned content management systems and one of the most popular platform for bloggers. For many bloggers a frequently asked question was why there are no simple ways for bloggers to monetise their sites through word press.

Fortunately, their demands have been met. WordPress have announced a partnership with Federated Media to introduce a new advertising program, called WordAds, that will enable bloggers to monetize their free blogs through the ad program.

Following a statement from WordPress it has been revealed that there are over 50,000 new WordPress.com and WordPress.org blogs and sites launching daily. Therefore, the contextual advertising options should provide advertisers with a huge opportunity to target relevant audiences through the wordpress community.

A spokesperson from SEO company QueryClick has commented:

“It has been apparent from the WordPress community that there has always been the demand for a way for users to monetise their blogs and able to earn money if their website or blog could generate a high enough level of traffic or quality content for it's visitors. For the many existing users that have managed to achieve high levels of traffic and high quality content, there should be a way in which they can benefit from doing so.”

“But, at the moment there has been very little released in terms of ad revenue that will be paid to bloggers, at the moment all users have to go on the current explanation given by founding developer Matt Mullenweg who explained to users that their primary goal is to create something that rewards bloggers for their hard work and the quality of their work. As such, be able to improve upon the current AdSense model and not optimise around a particular revenue share.”

In order to qualify for WordAds, WordPress will choose participants solely based on the content and traffic levels of each blog. And It is through this process that WordPress believes it is far superior to Google's AdWords.

As stated by Jon Burke, WordPress Ads Lead, in a blog post:

“We’ve resisted advertising so far because most of it we had seen wasn’t terribly tasteful, and it seemed like Google’s AdSense was the state-of-the-art, which was sad. You pour a lot of time and effort into your blog and you deserve better than AdSense.”
