Perthshire Rugby Football Club, or the Perthshire Eagles as they are locally known, have issued a challenge to rival Scottish rugby teams to join them in an attempt to hold the World’s Largest Kilt Run in the city of Perth this June
Gathering together at their most recent training session on the North Inch in Perth, the club pledged their participation to run in the event and have called on other rugby clubs across Scotland to get involved in the 5 mile fun run too.
Steven Bonthrone of Perthshire Running Events, who are organising the Perth Kilt Run on behalf of Perth & Kinross Council, was there to meet the players. He commented “I gave them some tips on running in kilts, however I made the mistake of picking up the rugby ball – next thing I knew, they were all chasing me across the Inch! All they need to do now is add a bit of tartan and they’ll manage fine on the day.”
“In all seriousness, the Perth Kilt Run is an excellent opportunity for clubs to add to their ongoing training, in a fun environment and to be involved in setting a world record for Scotland.”
The Perth Kilt Run is being held as part of the Perth & Kinross Council’s celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on Saturday 2nd June. 2000 kilted runners are expected to take to the streets of the newly crowned City of Perth to steal the record back from their twin town of Perth, Ontario in Canada.
