Three leading UK housebuilders are set to help create a significant new housing development in the Glasgow commuter belt as part of the first phase of a major transformational project in Bishopton.
Taylor Wimpey, CALA and Persimmon have reached an agreement with BAE Systems to build around 600 modern, energy efficient homes comprising two, three, four and five bedrooms on the former Royal Ordnance Factory site in Bishopton, making this one of the most exciting property developments taking place in the UK at the moment.
Construction on the first phase of the residential development, building on an investment of £32 million by BAE Systems to remediate the land and construct the primary roads and services, is scheduled to start in September 2012.
The total number of houses proposed as part of the overall, 15-year development plan is 2,500. It will also create around 4000 full and part-time employment opportunities for people in the area through the construction phases and operation of the planned commercial businesses.
Lynda Johnstone, Bishopton Project Director for BAE Systems said: “It is testament to the scale and quality of the transformation project that it has sparked the high level of interest from property developers of the calibre of Taylor Wimpey, CALA and Persimmon.
“The multi-million pound regeneration programme will see high quality homes in the area and deliver a new community, which alongside the housing development will include a new primary school, library, community centre, leisure facilities and woodland park to complement the existing friendly, close-knit village feel of Bishopton.”
Taylor Wimpey is one of the largest homebuilders in the UK, helping to create new homes and communities across the country.
Audrey Ross, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland said: “Taylor Wimpey is delighted to be included within the first housebuilders' consortium to deliver its part of the master plan that will create a new way of living in Bishopton. This is a very exciting time for the project as the implementation of many years of work begins.
“The scope of Taylor Wimpey's proposed plans will ensure there's a wide choice of homes to suit a broad range of buyers and we're keen to make a positive contribution to the community as our development progresses.
“We expect to start works on-site in late 2012, and plan to have our homes on sale by early 2013.”
CALA has a reputation for building premium homes in desirable locations. Liana Canavan, Sales and Marketing Director for CALA Homes (West) said: “We are delighted to be involved in a development of this scale that will provide beautiful modern homes within the picturesque rural setting of Bishopton. We are confident that our luxury, spacious homes will attract more people to join the existing community, that is well serviced with all modern amenities as well as road and transport links to the city of Glasgow and beyond.”
Persimmon and Charles Church Homes are the largest new homebuilder in Scotland, providing an approach to building homes that engage with most markets. Passionate about customer care and dedicated to delivering excellence, the Persimmon Group are delighted to be involved in this promising new development where we hope to have something for everyone.
Ingrid Gahagan, Sales Director for Persimmon Homes West Scotland said: “We believe a development in the Bishopton area would be in high demand and we are keen to provide quality stylish homes that will help enable first time buyers to get their foot on the property ladder and second and third time purchasers to find their dream home.”
