Spend summer in the Square for the Olympics

MERCHANT Square in Merchant City, the heart of Glasgow’s cultural, fashion and food quarter, has sent an open invitation to watch the opening ceremony of the London Olympics 2012 live on its giant screen at 9pm on Friday 27th July.

In fact, the invitation extends for the duration of the Olympic Games, as Merchant Square will be screening all other coverage throughout the competition.

Jenni Morrison of Merchant Square said: “Merchant Square will show all the Olympic action this summer on our giant screen – and all our bars and restaurants will be getting into an Olympic frame of mind with a range of Olympic-themed drinks and specials – so pull up a chair, have a bite to eat, crack open a beer or order yourself a cocktail and sit back to lap up all the Olympics has to offer in comfort!”

The Merchant Square is Glasgow’s most vibrant venue for a worldwide selection of cafes, bars and restaurants, including: Arisaig; Bar Square; Beer Café; Boudoir Wine Bar; The Chophouse Brasserie; Fanelli’s; Mercado and Metropolitan.

Located on Candleriggs, Merchant Square, once part of the old Glasgow Fruit Market, is imbued with the history of the area’s dominating Victorian architecture, although today this sense of history blends seamlessly with the distinctly cosmopolitan ambiance that pervades the surrounding cobbled streets that bring the outside in.
