Artwork faces the chop at live auction

A WEEKEND of special events is planned to mark the end of Creative Stirling’s inaugural Freedom Versions project.

The Freedom Versions V.1 graffiti art installation has been the centerpiece of the summer project based at Stirling’s historic Old Town Jail. The 31-metre mural, inspired by its location and the rich historical context of the city’s Victorian prison, was created by ten contemporary  Scottish artists as the first stage of a two-year project exploring notions of freedom, justice and ultimately Scottish independence.

To mark the end of the project the artwork will be chopped up and auctioned off to the public to support Creative Stirling’s mission as a not-for-profit Community Interest Company making a mark on the new cultural identity of the city.

The weekend of September 14-15 will also feature events including live music, a pop-up cinema and street theatre in collaboration with Bloody Scotland, Stirling’s first crime writing festival. In conjunction with Stirling on Stage, they have devised a promenade street theatre performance based on the fate of the mistress of famed grave robber William Burke.

The full weekend events are as follows:

Friday Sept 14

Bloody Scotland Reception

Meet the artists and reflect on the day’s events with fellow festival goers and guests.
