From Back to Splash in One Costly Step

In what must rank as one of the “great PR cock-ups” of the year, Spike has learned that the front page splash that appeared in some editions of the Sunday Mail had originally been intended for the relative backwater of page 45.
It concerns the early release, from prison, of a member of a three-man gang convicted of raping and torturing a woman with learning difficulties and living in the Borders.
The story of his early release was a Sunday Mail exclusive. But, ahead of publication and for no obvious reason – at least to reporters at the newspaper – Borders Council sought a court order to have the story pulled.
