Although his funeral was last week, Spike can’t let it go unrecorded: the death of journalist, Steve Jarvis. The Linn Crematorium in Glasgow was packed, full of fellow hacks and editors to pay their respects, who was perhaps best known for his work with the National Union of Journalists.
It was while Father of Chapel at the Evening Times newspaper that he established a charity for colleagues encountering hardship. He was instrumental in a similar initiative at the Daily Record and Sunday Mail.
For almost a decade, he was chair of the union’s Scottish Council.
Pneumonia, linked to leukaemia, led to his passing, at the age of 62.
