The National Union of Journalists is to set up a working party to look at a new production system being planned for the Herald group of newspapers.
It follows what Scottish Organiser, Paul Holleran, describes as “constructive” talks with the group’s managing director, Tim Blott, following a cessation of industrial action last week.
A series of walk-outs had been staged by the union, in protest at proposed compulsory redundancy at one of the group’s titles, the Evening Times.
The working party is to comprise NUJ members with production and technical expertise rather than officials.
Also encouraging for the union, a new ‘house agreement’ is on the talks agenda taking place next month.
