Thursday’s Herald newspaper carried a review of Glasgow restaurant, Velvet Elvis, with the headline…….‘Love Meat Tender at the Elvis Grill’.
It was penned by sub-editor, Jim Bruce, and nominated by PR consultant, Mike Ritchie, for this month’s Headline of the Month competition, sponsored by Whyte & Mackay.
Each month, a bottle each of Whyte & Mackay’s Special whisky goes to the author and nominator of what’s considered to be the best headline. What’s more, the best headline of the year wins its author and nominator each a bottle of limited edition Whyte & Mackay 30 year-old, worth over £150 a bottle.

And here’s both a tale and a contender for Headline of the Month, rolled into one. Scott Douglas’s excellent blog – mainly about public relations – informs us that it could be a long, hot summer for Edinburgh-based PR consultancy, Platform PR. Its telephone number 0131 226 3000 is just one digit different from that of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe box office. Predicting (here) an irritating stream of misdials, he headlines his article: ‘Please Ensure You Have Your Tickets Before Reaching Platform’.
