The Media in the Press 27.11.09

News reported yesterday on allmediascotland that the south of Scotland is to be part of a publicly-funded TV news pilot programme, on Channel 3, from next year (with Scotland identified, some weeks ago, as the second of only three pilots for the whole of the UK), makes appearances in both The Scotsman and The Herald.

Writes Erikka Askeland in The Scotsman, of the pilot plan to cover north of England and south of Scotland area of the UK currently served by Tyne Tees television: “Tyne Tees takes in an estimated 250,000 Scottish viewers and the pilot provides a chance to 'redraw' the broadcasting map and bring the Scottish Borders into the Scotland region.”

Page 4 of The Herald has Alison Campsie reporting: “More than a quarter of a million viewers in the Borders could be soon able to switch off their English-dominated news programmes and receive broadcasts with a stonger Scottish flavour.”

Elsewhere, there is, of course, plenty Susan Boyle, X Factor, Katie Price, I'm a Celebrity and Alesha Dixon (among things, she may quit as a judge on Strictly Come Dancing). And in the Scottish Sun, former Daily Record columnist, TV comedian, Frankie Boyle, pens a guest column.

The Scottish Daily Mail (page 25) has food retailers, Waitrose, chopping a TV ad, intended for Christmas, that some believe is upsetting to families of the armed forces. On page 31, the paper also reports the BBC dropping a 'controversial ballet'.

Meanwhile, the Scottish Daily Express, on page 6, has two media tales: there's to be a 'revamp' of GMTV and TV presenter, Fern Britton admitting to taking anti-depressants.
