A former newspaper editor in Northern Ireland has been appointed director of marketing and development at Strathclyde University, in Glasgow.
Tom Collins is joining from Queen's University, Belfast, where he held the post of director of marketing, recruitment and communications. Before joining Queen's eleven years ago, he was editor of The Irish News, during which time he was named UK Regional Newspaper Editor of the Year, in 1995.
Says Strathclyde: “In his new post, Mr Collins will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the university’s position, reputation and brand and will ensure Strathclyde continues to attract high-quality students.”
Collins has also served as chair of the Ulster Orchestra, from 2001-08, and also chaired Imagine Belfast 2008, the company established to run the city's bid for European Capital of Culture 2008. He was appointed an OBE for services to music in Northern Ireland in the Queen's Birthday Honours in 2007.
