The BBC was broadcasting criticisms against it this morning, that it has been guilty of overkill in its reporting of the England football team in the World Cup, taking place in South Africa.
BBC TV’s News Watch programme – which is presented by media specialist, Raymond Snoddy – showed film interviews with viewers from Skye and Edinburgh cricising the amount of coverage being devoted to England at the expense of coverage of other events across the news spectrum.
And there were specific allegations that the Scotland rugby team’s historic series triumph last week over Argentina, and the victory of Northern Ireland golfer Graeme McDowell’s in the US Open, had been deliberately downplayed by BBC news and sports departments to devote more time and space to the English national football team.
The BBC did not put forward a spokesperson on the programme.
