Crow Show as Deputy Editorship Goes his Way

Stability has been restored at the Scottish Daily Mail after the imminent departure of Andy Harries to edit the Scottish Sun.

There was some uncertainty among the troops after Harries' departure to take control of Scotland's biggest-selling daily newspaper.

The post of deputy editor at the Scottish Daily Mail has been handed to the long-serving Alan Crow, who worked alongside Harries for several years. He will be supported by the addition of John Cooper, lately of this parish who has spent the last few years working as the deputy editor of the Irish Daily Mail in Dublin.

Alan retains responsibility for the Mail on Sunday north of the border and will combine both roles after his position is confirmed from October 24.

It's a homecoming for John Cooper, whose wife, Patricia Kane, has been a leading light at the Mail on Sunday for several years.

One insider said: “Everyone's glad to see Alan confirmed in the role. He's a hands-on hack who knows how to run a major operation.

“It's a pity he supports Dunfermline FC because otherwise, he's got a pretty impressive track record.”

Harries moves just a few blocks away in Glasgow's city centre to take over from David Dinsmore, who moves upstairs at the Currant Bun.
