Double-digit Year-on-year Sales Drops for Newspaper Trio

The Times, Sunday Times Scotland and the Scottish News of the World have each experienced double-digit percentage drops in sales in Scotland, compared to this time last year.

Says the Audit Bureau of Circulation, the papers saw falls of 3565, 8053 and 35,947, respectively, between October last year and last month.

Only the Scottish Mail on Sunday, the Independent, the Independent on Sunday and the Scottish Daily Express experienced year-on-year sales increases in Scotland.

The figures read, across the board, as follows:

Scottish Daily Mirror (24,862 in October 2010 versus 26,670 in October 2009, down 1808 or 6.8 per cent), Daily Record (292,390 versus 311,304, down 18,914 or six per cent), Daily Star of Scotland (78,379 versus 86,065, down 7686 or 8.9 per cent), Scottish Sun (333,812 versus 354,910, down 21,098 or 5.9 per cent), and Scottish Daily Express (70,754 versus 69,661 up 2093 or three per cent).

Scottish Daily Mail (115,883 versus 114,461 down 1412 or 1.2 per cent), Daily Telegraph (21,116 versus 23,376, down 2260 or 9.7 per cent), Financial Times (4226 versus 4529, down 303 or 6.7 per cent), The Herald (52,642 versus 56,137, down 3495 or 6.2 per cent), The Guardian (14,038 versus 15,109, down 1071 or 7.1 per cent), and The Independent (8066 versus 7424, up 642 or 8.6 per cent).

The Scotsman (41,758 versus 45,054, down 3296 or 7.3 per cent), The Times (22,215 versus 25,789, down 3565 or 13.8 per cent), Daily Star of Scotland – Sunday (26,889 versus 27,872, down 983 or 3.5 per cent), Scottish News of the World (259,318 versus 295,265, down 35,947 or 12.2 per cent), and Sunday Mail (354,396 versus 384,345, down 29,949 or 7.8 per cent).

Scottish Sunday Mirror (21,809 versus 23,224 down 1415 or 6.1 per cent), The People (13,209 versus 14,558, down 1349 or 9.3 per cent), Scottish Sunday Express (35,337 versus 38,594, down 3257 or 8.4 per cent), Sunday Post (224,471 versus 236,774, down 12,303 or 5.2 per cent), and Scottish Mail on Sunday (105,223 versus 103,090, up 2133 or 2.1 per cent).

Independent on Sunday (6317 versus 6140, up 177 or 2.9 per cent), The Observer (17,880 versus 19,809, down 1929 or 9.7 per cent), Scotland on Sunday (50,897 versus 56,308, down 5411 or 9.6 per cent) and Sunday Herald (42,111 versus 43,259, down 1148 or 2.7 per cent).

Sunday Telegraph (18,339 versus 20,247, down 1908 or 9.4 per cent) and Sunday Times Scotland (59,502 versus 67,555, down 8053 or 12 per cent).
