Year-on-year Sales Joy for Just the Two Titles

Just two newspapers last month enjoyed increases in their sales in Scotland, compared to 12 months' previously.

Says the Audit Bureau of Circulation, the Scottish Sunday Mirror and The Independent each enjoyed year-on-year increases between December two years ago and last month: by 3.4 per cent and 3.2 per cent, respectively.

Across all the titles, the sales figures read:

Scottish Daily Mirror (22,837 in December 2010 versus 25,350 in December 2009, down 2513 or 9.9 per cent), Daily Record (277,899 versus 300,892, down 22,993 or 7.6 per cent), Daily Star of Scotland (66,803 versus 81,457, down 14,654 or 18 per cent), Scottish Sun (314,892 versus 340,237, down 25,340 or 7.4 per cent), and Scottish Daily Express (65,768 versus 67,285, down 1517 or 2.3 per cent).

Scottish Daily Mail (105,193 versus 113,771 down 8578 or 7.5 per cent), Daily Telegraph (18,882 versus 21,397, down 2515 or 11.8 per cent), Financial Times (3641 versus 4463, down 822 or 18.4 per cent), The Herald (51,286 versus 55,619, down 4333 or 7.8 per cent), The Guardian (12,921 versus 14,160, down 1239 or 8.7 per cent), and The Independent (7765 versus 7524, up 241 or 3.2 per cent).

The Scotsman (40,658 versus 43,941, down 3283 or 7.5 per cent), The Times (20,321 versus 23,956, down 3635 or 15.2 per cent), Daily Star of Scotland – Sunday (25,562 versus 27,665, down 2040 or 7.4 per cent), Scottish News of the World (245,768 versus 267,871, down 22,603 or 8.4 per cent), and Sunday Mail (338,508 versus 370,558, down 32,050 or 8.6 per cent).

Scottish Sunday Mirror (22,640 versus 21,898, up 742 or 3.4 per cent), The People (12,264 versus 13,905, down 1641 or 11.8 per cent), Scottish Sunday Express (35,154 versus 38,102, down 2948 or 7.7 per cent), Sunday Post (215,387 versus 231,695, down 16,308 or 7 per cent), and Scottish Mail on Sunday (98,312 versus 100,907, down 2595 or 2.6 per cent).

Independent on Sunday (6123 versus 6187, down 64 or one per cent), The Observer (16,952 versus 18,800, down 1848 or 9.8 per cent), Scotland on Sunday (45,996 versus 52,257, down 6261 or 11.9 per cent) and Sunday Herald (39,687 versus 40,463, down 776 or 1.9 per cent).

Sunday Telegraph (16,864 versus 19,016, down 2152 or 11.3 per cent) and Sunday Times Scotland (56,884 versus 63,531, down 6647 or 10.5 per cent).
