Herald Group Launches Countryside Magazine

A magazine dedicated to Scotland's countryside and rural lifestyle has been launched by the publishers of The Herald newspaper.

Country Lifestyle Scotland is to be published quarterly and on sale for £1.95.

Early copies of the launch issue were distributed at the Royal Highland Show, at Ingliston, near Edinburgh, last month, and with the June 18 issue of The Scottish Farmer magazine, which is also published by the Herald & Times Group. 

Says a statement issued by the publishers: “The magazine is primarily aimed at rural communities and country dwellers and is built on demand from the tremendously loyal readership of The Scottish Farmer who, although dedicated to rural living, want a magazine that offers perfect reading and is all encompassing of country life in Scotland as well as dealing with the issues and concerns of those living within these communities and environments.

“Country Lifestyle Scotland highlights all that is unique and wonderful about Scotland and the countryside that we are so proud of.”

The second issue of the magazine is scheduled for September 3. The magazine will be mainly available via The Scottish Farmer, but it will be available also from selected newsagents and retailers.

Publisher Darren Bruce is quoted, saying: “We believe the launch of Country Lifestyle Scotland now bridges a gap in the market that covers Scotland’s beautiful countryside and rural life. This is a quarterly magazine which will cover an array of associated topics from fishing to fashion and arts to antiques and will hopefully go from strength to strength following positive feedback from readers and advertisers alike on our first issue.

“We have chosen to utilise The Scottish Farmer as a distribution vehicle to help reach an already well established captive rural audience that will continue to grow and meet the needs and demands of our readers and clients. The magazine also comes with a free online e-edition and we have plans for an app for the iPad and iPhone consumption in the coming quarter.”

Editor, Karen Carruth, is also quoted, as saying: “There is a blend of articles in this publication which will appeal to readers interested in a diverse range of rural pursuits and lifestyles. The launch issue incorporated an in-depth Royal Highland Show preview that gave those attending Scotland’s premier rural show an insight and wider knowledge of some of the many activities that are going on throughout the show across the four days.”
