Press officers reportedly suspended for criticising council leaders

TWO members of staff in a local authority press office have been reportedly suspended, apparently for criticising council leaders.

Says yesterday’s Herald newspaper, the pair’s suspension at Argyll and Bute Council is because of remarks made on a ‘private staff message system’.

The paper quotes a spokesperson for the council confirming the suspension and an ongoing investigation, adding it has nothing to do with a case involving the pair’s boss who was suspended in February after allegedly admitting to joining social media networks to see what members of the public were saying about the council.

It’s not been a great week for media officers. Earlier this week, the Daily Record took to task a press officer at Lothian and Borders Police, for failing to provide a quote from the force’s chief constable about a case the paper felt merited such a response.
