THE editor of the Evening Times newspaper, in Glasgow, has been appointed a board member at the National Council for the Training of Journalists.
Donald Martin is one of five new board members, his appointment following the retirement of four long-standing board members, among them Jim Raeburn, of the Scottish Daily Newspaper Society.
The other four appointments are Alan Qualtrough, of the Western Morning News and Evening Herald; Brien Beharrel, of the Newbury Weekly News; Sue Campbell, from Darlington College; and Martin Stevenson, of the Newspaper Licensing Agency.
They will join the existing directors Kim Fletcher (chair), Joanne Butcher (chief executive), Peter Cole (vice-chair), Jan Lever, Liz Page, Alan Rusbridger, Bob Satchwell and Malcolm Vickers.
Said Fletcher: “We are fortunate that five such well-respected and high-achieving industry figures have accepted our invitation to the join the board of the NCTJ. They bring with them an extraordinary breadth and depth of experience and interests. I look forward to working with them and all our directors, staff and supporters to move the NCTJ to the next stage of its development and to maintain our on-going commitment to professionalism and innovation in journalism training and qualifications.”
