It was the tale, here, on Friday, by Gerri Peev, which had an adviser to US presidential hopeful, Barack Obama, calling rival contender, Hillary Clinton, a “monster”, before hastily saying she was speaking off-the-record.

As of 10.30am yesterday, there were 386,965 page views and 567 comments – making it the third, most read article – written by Scotsman staff, as opposed to agency copy – on the paper’s website, ever.

Topping the list is ‘Birthday-suit Parties all the Rage for Ivy League Students’, from January 8 last year, which received 681,665 page views and 152 comments. Then there was ‘Stalin’s Half-man, Half-ape Super-warriors’, from December 20 2005, which attracted 499,987 page views.
