St Mungo, the award-winning lager brewed by WEST, Glasgow’s independent brewery, is now available in Waitrose’s first store in the West of Scotland at Byres Road. Securing shelf space in the upmarket supermarket’s first Glasgow branch means that the premium lager is now available at all three Waitrose branches in Scotland.
Part of the John Lewis Partnership, Waitrose has a policy to stock quality produce from local food and drink producers, and WEST fits the bill perfectly! WEST MD Petra Wetzel said, “The buyer/supplier relationship between Waitrose and WEST really is a match made in heaven! As a speciality product, St Mungo offers Waitrose’s discerning customers a chance to taste something a little special, unavailable in any other supermarket.” Tracey Marshall, Waitrose Product Manager – Local & Regional, said, “WEST is a great example of the type of local and regional supplier that we actively seek out – someone that’s producing an innovative product, made with high quality ingredients to exacting standards.”
Named after Glasgow’s patron saint and fellow brewer, St Mungo is brewed according to the Reinheitsgebot of 1516 (the German Purity Law; the oldest food law in the world which ensures only the finest, purest beer is deemed fit for consumption).
St Mungo is a light golden lager that has already won a prestigious DLG (German Agricultural Society) gold medal following its launch last year. It is also available in Waitrose’s two Edinburgh branches in Morningside and Comely Bank.
Based in the iconic Templeton Building, WEST operates a full production brewery and is home to a stylish beer hall and restaurant with a beer garden overlooking Glasgow Green.
