Former Radio Clyde and Radio Forth marketing director Richard Muir has signed for ‘Team Glasgow’ after being appointed commercial director at Glasgow Chamber of Commerce.
After spending 10 years at the hub of Scotland’s largest commercial radio station, Muir has accepted the newly-created position with the Chamber, which has more than 2,000 members. With both an MSc and a professional diploma in marketing alongside a joint honours degree in history and sociology on his CV, Muir also brings with him previous employment experience from both the Glasgow Development Agency and Lothian and Edinburgh Enterprise.
Working with Glasgow Chamber of Commerce chief executive Stuart Patrick, Muir’s remit is to develop the commercial arm of the business, increasing revenue streams and corporate sponsorships, with a particular emphasis on events.
Muir said: “I’m absolutely delighted to join Glasgow Chamber of Commerce and in turn become part of Team Glasgow. With so much going on in the city at the moment not to mention the 2014 Commonwealth Games on the horizon, this is a very exciting time to be among the heart of things.
“Upon starting my new role and meeting the team it became clear very quickly just how much enthusiasm and energy there is at the Chamber and I’m really looking forward to working on behalf of our membership, further developing our overall offering to them and to the city.”
Founded in 1783, Glasgow Chamber of Commerce is the oldest Chamber in the English speaking world with continuous records. In November 2007 Glasgow 2014 Ltd, the organising committee set up to deliver the Commonwealth Games, helped the Chamber to a record membership by becoming its 2014th member.
Stuart Patrick, chief executive of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, added: “I’m very pleased to welcome Richard to the team. He was the outstanding candidate with a rich CV and track record of delivering high-profile commercial events so is ideally positioned to help us drive Glasgow Chamber of Commerce forward.”
