SCE Enterprise has formed a partnership with Edinburgh Tourist Guides Association to develop a training course to provide the background knowledge and essential skills for tour guiding in Edinburgh.
The focus of the course will be on gaining knowledge of the Old Town of Edinburgh and the skills required to lead a group by foot or on a coach.
Samantha Thomson, founding member and Chairman of Edinburgh Tourist Guides Association, said: “The Edinburgh Tourist Guides Association looks foward to working in conjuction with SCE Enterprise, a leading training provider in Edinburgh. The ETGA promotes the highest standards and quality of guiding in Edinburgh and the Lothians. This course gives the opportunity to gain invaluable skills and knowledge essential for any professional tour guide in Edinburgh.”
Alison Chambers, Associate Principal Business, Administration and Laguages at Stevenson College Edinburgh, added: “SCE Enterprise is delighted to be working with Edinburgh Tourist Guides Association on the Tour Guides programme. At a time when the Tourism industry is healthy in Scotland and in the capital, in spite of the economic downturn, these programmes offer employment opportunities to those who would like to work in the industry but for whom a full-time college course is not an option at present.
“We will offer the programme at different times during the academic year and look forward to developing our relationship with Edinburgh Tourist Guides Association to meet the needs of the local Tourism industry.”
Successful completion of the course will allow participants to join the Edinburgh Tourist Guides Association which provides Guides with insurance, booking services and advertising.
The course runs for two evenings (Tuesdays and Thursdays) per week over eight weeks, plus four Saturdays.
The course commences on Tuesday 2nd March. The Saturday training days are 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th April.
