Leading expert on Early Years Education, Galina Dolya, will lead a conference hosted by Stevenson College Edinburgh on Friday 26 February to explore A Vygotskian Approach to active learning in the Early Years.
Galina Dolya is the Curriculum Director of Key to Learning, which has developed an innovative Vygotskian approach to Early Years Education. She is currently a Researcher in the Department off Psychology and Pedagogy of Abilities at the Research Institute of Development of Preschool Education in the Russian Academy for Education in Moscow.
Marie McArthur, Associate Principal, Early Education, Health and Social Care at Stevenson College, said: “We are delighted to host this event, and privileged to have Galina as our key speaker. This is an ideal opportunity for those involved in the Early Years and Primary schools to gain new insight into the ways in which a Vygotskian approach can support the provision of active learning, that is central to the Curriculum for Excellence.”
The one day conference is aimed at those who have an interest in children in early years and primary school settings. Students, teachers and early years practitioners will find the topic to be of interest. It is also of great relevance to those involved in the training of early years workers and student teachers. Subjects covered will include Vygotsky’s Theory of Learning, acceleration versus amplification of learning, visible props and prompts for learning, practical applications of Vygotsky’s Theory and the key to learning – developmental cognitive curriculum for the early years.
