Combining a passion for fashion and charitable causes, Aberdeen-based photographer Ali Stewart is using her talents as both a model and photographer to promote local Cancer Research UK shops. The 26-year-old has gifted her time to the charity to showcase the most fashionable finds through striking promotional images.
She explains, “I am a supporter of Cancer Research UK and have been fundraising for cancer charities for a number of years now. When I was 17 my mum died of ovarian cancer so this is a cause which is very close to my heart.
“I do my best to donate clothing to the local Cancer Research UK stores at both Rosemount and Chapel Street but since starting my photography business, Ali Stewart Photography, I was inspired to do more. I decided to approach the charity’s Aberdeen area manager, Ken Donaldson, and luckily he loved my idea for promoting the shops through a photoshoot. I am very interested in fashion and love vintage styles, so the project seemed to fit well.”
Along with friend and fellow model, Rebecca Tulloch, Ali enjoyed the experience of sourcing clothes for the photo shoots and took several pieces from the vintage section at the Rosemount Viaduct shop. Fashionable finds in the shop vary in cost but most items were under £15 apart from a few garments, including a selection of stylish faux furs, some of which feature in Ali's shots. Cancer Research UK does not under any circumstance sell real fur. Ali adds, “I was allowed to borrow several items for the shoots but liked them so much I’m thinking of buying them for myself. It’s great value for money and I know it’s all going to a very worthwhile cause.”
The self-portrait shots were taken both on location and in a studio for varying effects. To complement the clothes, Ali chose seasonal woodland and urban decay as backdrops for the photographs, which can be viewed on her website at www.aliballybee.com and have been given to Cancer Research UK for use in any promotional materials. Ali’s friend and fellow model, Rebecca Tulloch also features in the images.
Ken Donaldson from Cancer Research UK said: “Ali’s shots look fantastic and show there are some really classy items available at bargain prices from Cancer Research UK shops.”
