Robert Gordon’s College has become one of a select group to be presented with the prestigious Eat Safe award, and is the first independent school in Grampian to do so. The Award was launched by the Food Standards Agency in Scotland (FSAS) during January 2005 and is designed to promote excellence in food hygiene and food safety management.
Eat Safe consists of a single tier of award granted by local authorities to establishments meeting standards of food hygiene which are over and above those required by current food hygiene legislation.
This follows the catering team at Gordon’s receiving the Healthy Living Award in late 2009 and proves that the pupils have the best possible catering service at school.
The catering at Gordon’s is provided by Entier Olive Garden Catering Company and Managing Director Peter Bruce said: “We are delighted to achieve this award and thanks go to Jo and Beverly for all their hard work.” The Eat Safe certificate was today presented to Catering Manager Beverley Donald and Head Chef Jo Watson by Peter Midgley, Head of the Food Law Enforcement Branch of the Food Standards Agency in Scotland and Carol Jackson, Head of Service at Aberdeen City Council.
Peter Midgley of the Food Standards Agency said “I would like to congratulate Robert Gordon’s College on this well deserved award which gives recognition for the dedication to food safety shown by the catering staff at Entier Olive Garden Catering Company”.
Entier Olive Garden Catering provide a wide selection of healthy options for pupils at Gordon’s, all prepared to the highest standards. They start the day with breakfast and finish with supper for the after-school club. They have a shop providing a range of healthy drinks and snacks throughout the day, and provide both hot and cold lunch options – each day they serve around 850 lunches to pupils.
